Job Title: Chemist III

Duration: 11+ months (extendable) contract on W2


Responsibilities:

The Troubleshooting and Diagnostics Unit at the Client in Elkton, VA is looking for you! You will be providing construction analysis and carrying out research on materials characterization, manufacturing equipment troubleshooting, pharmaceutical manufacturing forensics work aimed at events root cause determination and preventive actions. The nature of the work performed by the incumbent will be the solution of specific manufacturing events, these are expected to be non-recurrent after resolution.

You will be expected to perform clerical and general maintenance activities for a laboratory setting, such as, but not limited to:
  • Housekeeping
  • Diagnosing broken equipment
  • Spectroscopic characterization
  • Tracking and scheduling equipment/instrument maintenance activities
  • Titrations
  • General analytical chemistry
  • Ordering supplies
  • Reporting & analysis
  • Sampling
  • Communication with cross-functional teams in and outside of organization such as the owner the equipment, the supplier, the factory, etc.
  • Supporting new instrument acquisition
  • Safety first and quality always, it is expected for the candidate to follow and abide by all safety rules and regulations including but not limited to personal protective equipment, laboratory best practices, hazardous material handling principles, etc.
  • Expected to work in an environment with potential beta-lactam antibiotic exposure
Qualifications:
  • Education: BS, MS or PhD in chemistry or related discipline required – Post degree 3 + years
  • Knowledge of the scientific discipline and the ability to apply fundamental principles/techniques to the problems assigned.
  • Must operate with a safety-oriented mindset.
  • Statistics experience
  • Familiar with industrial equipment; valves, pumps, screw feeders, etc.
  • Knowledgeable in the following: Spectroscopic characterization techniques such as FTIR, RAMAN, elemental Analysis.
  • Proficient in “wet chemistry” analytical techniques.
  • Strongly preferred: Laboratory documentation practices in alignment with a GMP / GLP environment
  • Ability to work with people with diverse skillsets and educational backgrounds / multidisciplinary/cross function team environment. Ability to speak to technical and business audience
  • Preferred but not required: Knowledge of poisonous substances, bodily fluids. Use of medical equipment. SEM-EDX, ED-XRF. Particle Size Distribution. Leak detection (helium analyzer)
